- For some reason, after installing a new modem, I can't get xwindemo to run
- xprograms. Only a week ago I was running xview, xarchie, etc.
-
- I can get into an x-session with ease, but when I attempt to run one of these
- programs I get a message like this:
- "Error: Can't open display: my.ip.address:0.)"
-
- I have no idea where the ")" character is coming from, because my rexec
- command string is "xterm -ls -display: my.ip.address:0" It's almost like the
- system I'm logging onto isn't getting the correct IP of my machine.
-
- Could changing modems or comm ports have anything to do with this? Any advice
- would be greatly appreciated.

- I have heard of XRemote in conjunction with NCD's PC Xware (yes windows Xwin).
- It is some type of compression which is supposed to speed up the xwin
- process. I think that it is used instead of SLIP for serial connections.
